Fleeting Moments of Joy
It looks as a quilt, patches of thick, coarse cloth pieced together to provide protection. One leaf. Enormous. Alone. I think of a knight, standing proudly, waiting for the princess of his dreams to appear.
I stop daily, hoping for a happy ending.
One morning, I am greeted by her shy face of pearly white, her skin delicate, her demeanor frail. She beams in the arms of her faithful knight.
When I return to visit the royal couple, so distinguished in this kingdom of drab brown and earthen gray, she is gone. Her knight, dressed in patchy armor, remains.
Alone.
