A Storyteller’s Gift Box

Feb 2, 2014 | 0 comments

What is the greatest gift a storyteller can offer?

A story, of course. And for me, one who delights in telling stories about celebrating and protecting nature, particularly the Great Lakes, the more stories I have in my box, the better!

As one who has sailed Lakes Michigan, Erie, Huron, and most recently, Georgian Bay; who has wandered the trails of national and state parks along the coasts of Michigan and Indiana; bicycled paths stretching from Holland to Mackinac Island; jogged the streets of Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Toronto, I have many many stories.

But I am looking for more!

An internationally acclaimed photographer and grade school classmate, Paul Fetters, and I are combining our interests and talents to create the Faces of the Great Lakes, a collection of photo/essays about the people whose lives are influenced by the lakes. The stories may inspire, motivate; trigger laughter or thoughtful reflection; share a tradition, voice a concern; whisper a dream or speak of a memory.

Do you have a story?

Beginning this spring, I plan to enhance my blog with the stories of others celebrating and protecting the Great Lakes. If you would like to contribute to this project, please fill out the comment form on the Faces tab of this website. In roughly 150 words, share with me the essence of your story, or a story you recommend. Be sure to include key contact information–name, phone, and email so I can follow up with you if your story is selected. I cannot promise it will make my blog. I cannot promise it will make our collection. What I can promise is to do my best to reflect the many faces who call these lakes home
