Two women walk slowly as the Arizona sun casts morning shadows across the desert. The elder woman tucks her hand tightly around the arm of the other. Perhaps for balance. Perhaps for intimacy. Perhaps both. They speak softly, heads together as if sharing their deepest heartaches, richest stories, most coveted dreams.
They pause, listening, faces rapturous. One points to a little feathered body filling the skies with music. The younger one, her own face weathered, gingerly aims her camera, intent on photographing the moment. Determined to savor it forever.
Determined to savor it forever.
This movie, “Discovering the Music of Sky Island Basin,” was created for, with, and in honor of the 86 year-old woman who has accompanied me through life. She is my inspiration. My role model. My mentor. My mother.
(Movie length: 5 minutes, 2 seconds. Music: “On Eagle’s Wings” by Steve Hall.)
